Thanksgiving was interesting

We drove down to Los Angeles for the holiday weekend. Katherine cooked a wonderful turkey and Randy (her dad) tried to take credit for it. When Bevin's (Kat's step sister) boyfriend complimented Randy on a great turkey I thought Kat's glare would burn a hole right through him, though he didn't notice! Overall it was what you'd expect. Lots of meat and potatoes and stuffing, and some token green beans to claim there were vegetables at the meal. Randy has gotten a lot better about eating well (don't ask why, that's a whole different post), but still is a meat and potatoes guy to the core. The meal was followed by watching lots of movies for the next couple of days, mixed with shopping, playing pool and the occasional dip in the hot tub. Standard fare for a trip to the in-laws.

The drive back home felt like rush-hour all over again, but I won't bore you with the details, other than to say Katherine swears she'll never drive for the holidays again. We've already told Randy that we're not going to LA for Christmas. I think he's pretty disappointed, since we've finally moved to California and are not so far away anymore, but still aren't coming for Christmas. I don't suppose he can complain too much, we've seen him 3 times in the last couple of months. Since we can't make it home to Missouri for Christmas, we've made plans with our Norwegian neighbors to celebrate. We will celebrate with them, Norwegian-style, on Christmas Eve, and then American-style on Christmas Day.

They also have invited us to stay with them for a night at a condo in Tahoe for New Year's Eve. We haven't decided whether to take them up on that, but it sounds like fun! This weekend we are contemplating going skiing. We haven't been since we moved out here for lack of money, but they have a beginners weekend where you pay only $20 for lift ticket, rental and lessons! I'll let you know how it goes!
